My Heart’s Ballad
My heart softens and I crumble,
When I see someone so humble,
I try to walk straight but stumble.
My every move is a fumble.
The sight of you just brings me down.
The hijab on your head is your crown.
In front of you I look like a clown,
While others look at you and frown.
Your modesty touches my heart,
And it shows that you’re not just some ‘tart’.
You’re a true believer, really smart,
And you’ve perfected the soul’s art.
Words in my mind are plenty to say
But in front of you I lose the way
You seem to always just smile and pray
And it’s all the same each and everyday
Wait. Did I just write these words today?!
